In Romans, Ephesians, Colossians, 2 Timothy, Philemon all talk of how Paul is a prisoner of Jesus Christ. He (Paul) is truly a prisoner, but is it of Christ? NO!
He is a prisoner of the Roman leaders and of the Jews who wanted Him to shut up and stop preaching. Because he refused to cast aside his Christian faith, that's why he was still in prison.
His only "crime" was faith in Christ!
Before he was killed, He prayed for two messengers of Nero and they became followers of Christ. I know men with that type of character and faith. My brothers in Christ, My brothers in faith!
Have you ever been falsely accused? Next was James, son of Zebedee.
His accuser was brought to repent of his conduct by the apostle's extraordinary courage and undauntedness, and fell down at his feet to request his pardon, professing himself a Christian, and resolving that James should not receive the crown of martyrdom alone. They were beheaded together. He died professing Christ!
Have you ever confessed your sins? James the less, brother of Jesus,
at the age of 94 was beaten and stoned by the Jews, then had his brains bashed in. At first he didn't believe in Jesus because he didn't understand Him, but He died believing in Christ!
My name is Bill. I'm your friend. I'm going to tell you the truth. Many of you are as guilty as SIN! You have done some of the most terrible crimes ever devised by Man and Satan.
You're headed into HELL! The odd part is that you were going there before you did your crime that landed you in prison. But you don't have to die in your sins, you can be forgiven, you can see God and live free again.
Freedom is only a breath away. You can ask Jesus Christ to forgive you and ask Him to enter your heart, just like that.
Or maybe you would rather roast with Satan. I have heard macho guys say," I'm going to Hell cause that's where my friends are" REALLY? That's a crock, its a lie!
Mark was dragged to death! You think your sentence is cruel and unusual? How about being thrown to the lions. That was a Roman sport of them days. Thomas was speared, Luke was hung from an olive tree, Simon, the zealot, was crucified. What did all these guys do to be put to death by such violent means? They preached salvation in Christ! I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me. . . . . . Galatians 2:20 Paul (earlier Saul) took part in the death of Stephen. Yet here he says He is dead to the world but lives only with Christ in him and only for Christ. I have saved the best for last! John, son of Zebedee, never saw a violent death as did the others before him. He was the Apostle who preached of LOVE. He also wrote the Gospel of John, and the books 1, 2, and 3 John. He said,"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this, all men will know that you are my disciples if you love one another!" . . John 13:34
Follow the prayer on the back and give up your old selfish nature. Ask Christ to allow you to be His child.
Here is an example of his faith:
Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God . . 2 Timothy 1:8
There are many that were put in prison because of their love and preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The story of Martyrs is a story of the fight of good against evil, From beginning to end.
Foxes "Book of Martyrs" tells of the disciples, apostles, and others that preached the gospel of Jesus Christ and who were put to death for their testimony in the years after The Savior was crucified. Paul was a prisoner for many years before being beheaded.
Stephen was the first martyr after the death of Jesus. He died while preaching the Gospel to the same ones whom killed Christ. False witnesses were brought against him and he was stoned. Saul (later Paul) held the coats of those who did it. He died glorifying Christ!
