Mankind always likes to take the easy way out. Let’s admit it, it’s easier to go with the flow of traffic, i.e. norms, customs, beliefs, than it is to oppose it. Who wants to stand up and say the truth when the truth isn’t expedient? After all it’s the nail that sticks up above the rest that gets hammered, right? Mankind likes to have fun and he doesn’t like to wait for his reward. So he created a Santa. I should say Santa evolved out of St. Nicholas. He is the giver of gifts to the unfortunate, the overseer of good and bad. You’d better be good when he’s in town. When he’s out of town I guess you don’t have to be good. As I was saying the present belief is that Santa lives at the North Pole, rides a sleigh, comes to town once a year, wears a red suit, comes down your chimney, even if you don’t have one. He makes you stand in line to see him or sit on his lap, and he doesn’t even know your name. He’s overweight and does a lot of laughing or Ho Ho-ing. He tells children you’d better not cry but some kids are terrified of the actors that wear the big red suit. I have hopes that some day the Santa union will go out on strike and exposed the real truth to all the poor unsuspecting kids of the world. Where will they turn? I doubt if they would be willing to believe in Christ after learning what a lie some had foisted upon them before. Don’t get me wrong about anyone who wears the Santa suit at Christmas time. There are lots of people who play Santa and they just love to give, of themselves, of their treasures, and of their talents. For them Christmas is a continuation of they’re year round act of giving because they truly love their neighbor as much as themselves. Though their heart may be in the right place, their faith is not and there will be a reckoning day for all. How does Jesus compare to "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ......lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;" (2 Timothy 3:1, 2, 4).
